He was one of the protagonists of the shooting at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona, along with Doc Holliday, Virgil Earp, and Morgan Earp. During his tenure as marshall he lost one of his two brothers and one of his was crippled by the revenge of his enemies.
